Brand new lockdown workshops!

SATURDAYS

10am - Music Theory for Folk Musicians
Are you a folk musician and have always wanted to know more about modes, scales, chords, intervals and harmonies? This is a practical course that serves as an introduction to the music theory behind UK folk music. We will learn some tunes and look into how we can use music theory to help us to perform and arrange them. Open to all instruments.

2pm - Beginners Guide to Medieval Music
These workshops are an introduction to medieval music and an exploration of its connections with folk music. We will focus mainly on instrumental music, but there will also be opportunities to sing for those who wish. We will learn some incredibly beautiful ancient melodies and how to bring them back to life, covering ornamentation and arrangement ideas. The course is open to all instruments and will be taught by ear. The written notation will be handed out as well as recordings of the tune to help your practice.

SUNDAYS

We will learn a jig, reel, polka, waltz, hornpipe and maybe even a morris melody. The course is open to all instruments and will be taught by ear. The written notation will be handed out as well as recordings of the tune to help your practice.
